A Cessna 172 made an emergency landing on westbound Highway 1 near Banff on Tuesday afternoon after losing engine power while travelling from Springbank Airport to Golden, B.C. The pilot and passenger were not injured, and no vehicles were struck.
The single-engine aircraft landed on a clear stretch of the four-lane Trans-Canada Highway near the Sunshine Village interchange. RCMP and Parks Canada wardens responded.
Police temporarily reduced westbound traffic to one lane for about two hours as emergency crews towed the plane to a designated highway pullout. Transportation Safety Board investigators were to inspect the aircraft there.
